Girlkind Kenya was founded in 2019 amid widespread stigma, persecution, and humiliation of uncircumcised girls at the communal level. It is worth noting that some parents who abandoned the practice of FGM received complaints from their daughters that they were being bullied, mocked by their peers, who discovered that they are not circumcised.
Girlkind Kenya aims not only to combat stigma and ridicule among uncircumcised girls, but also to work towards societal behavioural transformation that will lead to a healthy and decent living.
The Organization also works with communities to empower girls and women with employability and other livelihood skills, thereby eliminating harmful cultural beliefs and practices such as Female Genital Mutilation, early marriages and other forms of gender-based violence.
The organization is registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO) with a national outfit to function throughout Kenya. GirlKind Kenya focuses on Education and Social Learning, Health, Socio-Economic empowerment and Leadership Development. The organization is restoring marginalised girls’ dignity by transforming social norms and galvanizing communities to abandon all forms of gender-based violence.
